‘The Hunt for Gollum’ May Have to Recast a ‘Lord of the Rings’ Star

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum

A report from Knight Edge Media (via World of Reel) alleges that Viggo Mortensen will not reprise his role as Aragorn in The Hunt for Gollum after all, and will instead be recast with a younger actor.

Kill Screen

Deadline has word that David Dastmalchian will star alongside Ella Balinska in Kill Screen, the latest from Wolf Creek director, Greg McLean. The story concerns “a young woman (Balinska) and her three friends are drawn into a mysterious virtual reality horror game. Each level forces them to survive an entirely different horror subgenre—from slashers to supernatural, zombie horror to psychological. When they learn that dying in the game means dying in real life, the friends must outthink and outfight the game’s sadistic creator (Dastmalchian) before their luck runs out.

Star Wars

Daisy Ridley stated the currently untitled Rey Skywalker movie will be “worth the wait” in a recent interview with IGN.

Honestly, there are scripts that I read five years ago, and now I’ve gone, ‘Oh, maybe they will actually happen. I think over the years, I’ve learned how the reality of getting any film made is so massive. The hurdles are vast . . . But with this [Rey movie], particularly, I know that incredible voices and creatives are part of it, and I know the wait will be worth it.

Orphans

Deadline reports Republic Pictures has acquired the third film in the Orphan franchise—officially titled Orphans—for release.

Avengers: Doomsday

According to a new listing from the Korea Media Rating Board, the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday will run just 1 minute and 25 seconds long. [Screen Rant]

Tomb Raider

Deadline reports Sigourney Weaver is “in talks” to play an undisclosed role in the upcoming Tomb Raider TV series starring Sophie Turner as Lara Croft.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

In a recent THR profile, Eliza Dushku stated she will not return for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival, as she’s retired from acting to pursue a new career in psychotherapy.

Yeah. I will not be in front of a camera again unless it’s in some capacity that is in service of my new work and passion.
