It’s been a long time coming, but a new season is coming to Marvel Rivals later this week, and with it, two more of Marvel’s mightiest mutants are joining the fight: Remy and Anna-Marie are joining the fight. And it seems like they might not be alone…
After much waiting and speculation, today NetEase officially confirmed that Rogue and Gambit would be the next two heroes to join Marvel Rivals in its fifth season, titled “Love is a Battlefield.” The new season is loosely inspired by the duo’s marriage in the 2018 run of X-Men: Gold, which saw Remy and Anna-Marie finally tie the knot after Kitty Pryde stood up Piotr Rasputin at the altar. Except this time, taking place on Krakoa, it’s the former couple rather than the latter who get disrupted, when Rogue and Gambit’s wedding is disrupted by the timestream entanglement that created Rivals‘ mashup world in the first place.
In a fun twist, the teaser also confirmed that Rivals will see X-Men ’97 stars Lenore Zann and A.J. LoCascio reprise their roles as Rogue and Gambit, respectively.
Although it’s not yet clear what order Rogue and Gambit will come to the game, the narrative implies that Remy may be first up, as he tasks himself with travelling across the multiverse to find the rarest ring in existence to prove he is worthy of Rogue’s love. We also currently don’t know just how the two new mutants will fit into Rivals‘ Vanguard/Duelist/Strategist archetype triangle, although my fellow Strategist mains will no doubt note that neither seem like they’d be best suited to the support archetype, so we may be in for another double-Duelist or Duelist/Vanguard (Rogue could definitely be a fun, high-flying tank character in the vein of Angela) season without a major surprise.
Interestingly, the trailer does seem to tease that another mutant will be joining Rivals‘ roster soon: briefly glimpsed as one of the guests helping Rogue and Gambit prepare for their wedding is Scott Summers himself, Cyclops. Time will tell if fans will have to wait a while to see him, just as was teased with Blade’s arrival in game, but it seems like Rivals is going to be getting quite mutant-heavy in the coming months.
The next season of Marvel Rivals is launching this Friday, November 14.
Update 11/11/2025 12.20pm ET: Surprise! A new developer video from NetEase has now confirmed that Gambit will be the first hero arriving in season 5 November 14, and will actually be a Strategist, using his cards to heal allies, cleanse negative effects, and harass foes with antiheal debuffs. Rogue will arrive as part of the midseason update in roughly a month’s time, and her place in the archetype system has yet to be confirmed. Check out more details in the video below.
