V, the main character of V for Vendetta, loves a grand proclamation, and what could be grander than this? In one year from today, V for Vendetta is returning to theaters.
Written by the Wachowskis, directed by James McTeigue, and based on the iconic graphic novel by Alan Moore and David Lloyd, V for Vendetta was released in theaters way back in March 2006. It’s the story of an anarchist named V (played by Hugo Weaving) who fights against a futuristic, fascist establishment through large acts of terrorism. He then recruits a young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) to his cause. In the story, V wears a mask inspired by Guy Fawkes, and quotes about Guy Fawkes Day on November 5 are a prominent part of the plot. Hence this news coming today. “Remember, remember, the 5th of November,” after all.
“From its early days as a graphic novel and then a feature film, few properties have struck a chord with fans and been more thought-provoking societally than V for Vendetta,” Tom Lucas, Vice President of Studio Relations at Fathom Entertainment, said in a press release. “Twenty years later, the movie still resonates, and Fathom is so pleased to bring it back to theaters next November with our partners at Warner Bros. and Saga Arts.”

We revisited V for Vendetta a few years back for its 15th anniversary and found that its action, themes, and surprises resonated just as well then as they did when Moore and Lloyd released the comics in the 1980s and even better than when it was released in 2006. We’d imagine that next year, on its 20th anniversary, that will only ring truer. You can read the full retro review at this link.
Since this isn’t The Odyssey, tickets are not on sale yet, but fans can sign up at Fathom to be alerted when they do go on sale. V would certainly approve of the preparation.
