‘Keeper’ Continues Its Relentlessly Enigmatic Marketing Campaign

reading time 1 minute

If Guillermo del Toro, James Wan, and Damien Leone love your movie—enough to contribute gushing blurbs to its latest trailer—you must be doing something right. And by “right,” we mean “freaking people the hell out,” which is clearly the aim of Keeper, the next horror drop from Longlegs and The Monkey director Osgood Perkins.

Here’s the new Keeper trailer, which divulges precious few new plot details but conveys a deeply sinister mood:

“A terrifying, ghostly descent into madness,” exclaims the guy behind The Conjuring. “Perkins further establishes himself as a formidable voice in horror,” the creator of Terrifier tells us. And the Oscar winner who’s about to drop his take on Frankenstein describes Keeper as “horror origami that skillfully folds into itself.”

To go with the new trailer, Neon also dropped a new Keeper poster, featuring distressingly black eyes on stars Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland, the quote from Wan, and a tag line that couldn’t be any creepier: “If only you were dead.”

It seems likely we won’t be getting more to go on about Keeper‘s plot until it actually hits theaters, but it looks like Perkins is traveling in a more experimental direction after The Monkey (a Stephen King adaptation that blended plenty of pitch-black comedy into its splattery gore) and Longlegs (a subversion of The Silence of the Lambs featuring a top-tier dose of weirdness from Nicolas Cage as a hooting maniac). So, that’s certainly saying something.

Keeper opens November 14. Will you be checking it out?
