Game of Thrones universe fans are going to be fed come 2026. Not only will House of the Dragon be coming back for its third season, but the new spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will explore a fan-favorite part of the Westeros lore.
New York Comic Con attendees were given a peek behind the curtain for the upcoming series, which is set to premiere in January. The show will dive deep into the tales of George R.R. Martin’s Hedge Knight in a six-episode adaptation of his stories.
Panelists from the show included showrunner Ira Parker along with cast Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell, Finn Bennett, Edward Ashley, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Daniel Monks, Shaun Thomas, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Danny Webb, who gave insight on how the major events in Martin’s first “Dunk and Egg” story, The Hedge Knight: The Tourney at the Ashford Meadow, will come to life.
Readers know the tournament is where Duncan the Tall (Claffey) finds his place as a knight after his mentor passes away. He’s a former squire who rises to a new role and takes a squire of his own, a boy by the name of Egg (Ansell)—who’s hiding a big secret.
Parker previously shared with Entertainment Weekly details on the setting of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. It takes place 50 years after House of the Dragon, in a time when all the dragons have died out (before being revived thanks to the events of Game of Thrones).
“The fact that we live in this world where magic once existed is very interesting to me,” Parker told EW. “This is the ground and the grass that has seen dragons and dragon fire before. So everything is just like how the world is, but a little stranger, a little different.”
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms aims to portray Westeros from a scaled-down, grittier perspective—no Iron Throne in sight. It’s definitely a much-needed change of pace and we can’t wait to see more!
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will debut on HBO January 18, 2026.
