If you’re a fan of the amazing 1987 film, The Lost Boys, you’ve probably heard that a musical version has been in the works for some time. It was a weird notion. What about The Lost Boys screamed “Broadway musical”? Surely, that would never actually happen. However, as the movie teaches us, you must “still believe,” because now it is. Cue the sax.
A musical adaptation of The Lost Boys will now officially open at the Palace Theater in New York City on April 26, 2026, with previews starting on March 27, 2026. It comes from producers James Carpinello, Marcus Chait, and Patrick Wilson (yes, that Patrick Wilson) and features a story by James Jeremias and Janice Roberta Fischer, a book by David Hornsby and Chris Hoch, music and lyrics by the Rescues, and direction by two-time Tony Award winner Michael Arden (whose last show, the sci-fi Maybe Happy Ending, recently won the Tony for Best Musical).
So who is in the cast? That news just broke, too.
So it’s basically everyone in the original movie. More cast will be announced later (presumably for roles like Laddie, Grandpa, and the Sexy Sax Man), but I have to say, I’m incredibly intrigued. How faithful is this going to be? Will it be too cheesy? Shouldn’t it be at least a little cheesy? I know one thing. It might be time to book a trip to Santa Carla. I mean, New York.
