For decades, the Predator has always been the villain. An unstoppable champion with its sights set on our heroes. But, on November 7, that changes with Predator: Badlands. For the first time, not only is a Predator the hero, but they are also not at the top of the food chain. Other things are bigger, stronger, and deadlier.
Predator: Badlands tells the story of Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), a young Predator who needs to prove his worth to his father. To do so, he’ll travel to the deadliest planet in the galaxy and set his sights on the deadliest creature on that planet. Along the way, he’ll need the help of Thia (Elle Fanning), a Weyland-Yutani android who, at some point, loses her legs. Dek then carries her around like a backpack as they traverse the evil terrain.
Fox just released the latest trailer for the film, and in it, we see all of that and so much more. Check it out.
A few things stand out in that trailer. First, there’s the humanity of Dek. You can really see that Trachtenberg and the team want you to feel for this character. To give him real emotions. Which, in turn, is likely to make everything else more dramatic.
Second are the creatures. There are so many awesome creatures here, inspired by elephants, bats, gorillas, and more. So far, the trailers have hinted that the massive spiky gorilla creature is the one Dek is there to kill, but we have a feeling that’s just a tease. I’d imagine there are more creatures to be revealed, including the ultimate baddies.
And finally, it’s the little teases. We get a brief glimpse of Elle Fanning playing a second character here, as well as a lanky green alien type that we think also helps Dek. (Mostly because he comes with him in the toys.) What’s going on with all of that? There’s a lot going on here, and we cannot wait to see how it comes together. And if Dek ends up successful in his hunt.
Predator: Badlands opens on November 7.
