Synology logo Synology heeft versie 7.4.1 van Disk Station Manager uitgebracht. Synology DSM is de beheersoftware die op diverse nasproducten van het bedrijf draait. De Disk en Rack Stations bieden meer dan alleen extra opslagruimte. Zo kunnen er extra pakketten worden geïnstalleerd om het apparaat bijvoorbeeld ook als mediaserver, home-automationserver, webserver, printserver of back-upserver te laten functioneren. De mogelijkheden zijn eindeloos. Sinds versie 7.3 is het niet langer verplicht om schijven van Synology zelf in de nieuwere modellen te gebruiken. In deze uitgave zijn de volgende twee problemen verholpen:

  • Enhanced KMIP certificate handling to comply with updated certificate issuance policies for public certificate authorities (CAs). Synology default certificates, the QuickConnect certificate, and certificates issued by public CAs (e.g., Let's Encrypt, SSL.com, and Sectigo) are not supported for KMIP client authentication. Update succesvol uitgevoerd op mijn DS1817+, maar na de reboot wil mijn OpenVPN verbinding niet meer verbinden. Het geeft 'can not connect' error, check network settings. Dat heb ik uiteraard gedaan maar ik heb geen idee waar ik moet zoeken. Wellicht is er iets in de security gewijzigd door de update. Hulp is van harte welkom.

Heb hier wel eens eerder meegemaakt dat ik na een update in de VPN Server settings (onder general) de network interface opnieuw moest toewijzen. Deze instelling was dan niet meegenomen om wat voor reden dan ook. Even opletten dat je de juiste netwerkaansluiting achterop kiest welke aan je internet hangt, zou je moeten kunnen zien in het Control Panel onder Network, Network Interface.
Het gaat om een OpenVPN verbinding naar NordVPN. En LAN1 staat aangevinkt en is connected.

Update : verbinden met UDP werkt wel, TCP niet.

Wat zegt de logging?
Logging zegt : 'Failed to redial by VPN profile (TCP)'

UDP connectie werkt wel.
Update eens je configuratiebestand (.ovpn). Ik denk dat het probleem ontstaat doordat dit op een Synology NAS na een update meestal het gevolg is van gewijzigde coderings- of beveiligingsvereisten, verbroken certificaathandshakes of niet-overeenkomende interfacebindingen.

Zojuist gedaan, maar maakt helaas geen verschil. Er is blijkbaar 'iets' met de TCP verbinding, want UDP werkt wel.
Maar moet je TCP gebruiken dan? Zelfs NORDvpn raadt UDP aan

"NordVPN wants to provide the best browsing experience without compromising on speed, so we use the UDP protocol by default. We recommend trying the UDP protocol first and only switching to TCP if you experience any issues."

Dat had ik ook gelezen, maar ik merk dat met UDP de snelheid veel lager is.
Ik gebruik momenteel ook VPN met UDP de snelheid is prima.
Ik haal de helft van de snelheid met UDP t.o.v. TCP, 300Mbit op TCP en 150 op UDP.
Zet firewall op Synology heel even uit om te kijken of het dan wel lukt. Weet je of het aan de rules (of het ontbreken daarvan) ligt. configuratiescherm/beveiliging/firewall (haakje ff weghalen).
Dat maakt helaas geen verschil.

Heb ik ook geregeld met update, truc bij mij is DNS veranderen naar bijv 8.8.8.8. Staat soms op 8.8.8.8 en werkt niet dan soms even naar 1.1.1.1

Apart maar werkt bij mij
Ook even geprobeerd, maar helaas maakt het niets uit.
Ik had hetzelfde met de initiële release van Synology DSM 7.4 build 90075 en een L2TP/IPsec VPN verbinding. Ik heb er uiteindelijk voor gekozen om te downgraden naar Synology DSM 7.3.2 build 86009 Update 4 via de onofficiële downgrade trick en de L2TP/IPsec VPN verbinding werkte weer als vanouds, had nogal wat voeten in aarde om de juiste packages weer opnieuw geïnstalleerd te krijgen maar uiteindelijk gelukt
Dat betekent dus dat er 'iets' gewijzigd is. Ik kan maar niet vinden wat het is. UDP werkt wel maar TCP niet, en met UDP haal ik maar de helft van de snelheid t.o.v. TCP.
De changelog is van 7.4.0 en niet van 7.4.1
