Lego Is Leaning Into Your Marvel Memories With a New Helicarrier Set

Reading time 2 minutes

The beauty of Lego is that it both retires sets, never to be seen again, and also updates sets, making something old new again. In the case of the Helicarrier, one of the big, signature vehicles not only in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but also in Lego’s Marvel Super Heroes line, the latter is happening. The Helicarrier is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever.

Lego just announced that on June 1, it’ll be releasing the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, a 3,057-piece, $400 set that features minifigures of Captain America, the Winter Soldier, Phil Coulson, Maria Hill, Hawkeye, and Nick Fury. It’s an update of a 2,996-piece S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, which was originally released in 2015 and retired in 2017. That means you couldn’t really find a big Helicarrier for almost a decade. But now you can. Here are some images of the new set.

Looking at photos of the original set, it feels like if you have that one, you don’t need this one. This one is designed a little sleeker and has a few changes, especially around the hover fans. But, for the most part, it’s similar. The mini-figs are better this time around, though. Both sets had Nick Fury, Captain America, Hawkeye, and Maria Hill, but the new one doesn’t have Black Widow and adds Winter Soldier as well as, most importantly, Phil Coulson. You’ve gotta have Phil Coulson on the Helicarrier! It’s where he gave his life for the Avengers.

Plus, the theming on the box this time looks much cooler. The early set, despite its size and cost, was just generally labeled as part of the larger “Lego Marvel Super Heroes” line. This one is part of “The Infinity Saga,” with all the official logos and designs to boot.

This new set stands 11.5 inches high, 26.5 inches long, and 17.5 inches wide. It’s a beast. Just don’t unleash the beast on it. We saw what happened last time.
