Everything Everywhere All at Once is the title of the Daniels’ 2022 Oscar-winning sensation. But it’s also an apt descriptor for Ryan Gosling at the moment. Currently dominating the box office with sci-fi smash Project Hail Mary, Gosling is also the star of 2027’s very anticipated Star Wars: Starfighter. And he’ll be keeping that sci-fi streak going, it seems, with today’s news that he’ll be headlining the mysterious next film from the Daniels.
Deadline reports Gosling will star in what the trade’s calling an “event film,” though that’s about all we know about it so far: “Details remain under wraps on the project other than it is set to start production later this summer in Los Angeles.” In a recent interview with Collider, Daniel Kwan (one of the Daniels, alongside Daniel Scheinert) said the film will “try doing what we’ve always done: listen very deeply to what is happening in the world and try to internalize that and make something really fun and entertaining.”
He also said, “It’s going to be fun sci-fi, action comedy with a big heart. Very existential.”
Gosling has certainly proven himself capable of balancing action and comedy with ease, and he’s clearly a big sci-fi fan. Aside from Project Hail Mary and Star Wars: Starfighter, his resume includes Blade Runner 2049 and—well, Barbie is more of a fantasy, but there’s no greater example of his versatility. He seems like a perfect fit to work alongside the guys who made “hot dog fingers” and “Best Picture winner” overlap in cinema history.
We’ll bring you more on the Gosling-Daniels team-up as and when we learn it.
