We Accidentally Just Got Our First Look at the Grown-Up Heroes of the ‘Last Airbender’ Movie

Reading time 1 minute

Fans still have some hope that Paramount might change course and decide to release The Legend of Aang—the first animated feature film based on Avatar: The Last Airbender—in theaters rather than relegating it to streaming status. But as the fall release window draws nearer, there’s now a new scrap of detail to cling to: a first look at the movie’s characters.

In the grand tradition of superhero movies trickling out spoilers via early merch drops, the imagery comes not through Nickelodeon’s or Paramount’s official channels but from a retailer. Target has a T-shirt on its site, currently listed as “out of stock,” but it still has the graphic available for all to see. You can see the artwork at the top of this post and pick out grown-up versions of Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, and Toph.

As the detectives at Nerdist also discovered, Target is selling (or will be, once the website has stocked up) T-shirts for individual characters as well: Aang, Katara, Zuko, and Toph. Plus, you can get the group with Appa and Momo hanging out in the background—and another group pose that includes what looks to be the villain character voiced by Dave Bautista.

If you check out all of Target’s Avatar-adjacent goods, be warned: the big box store doesn’t know the difference between James Cameron and The Last Airbender, so be sure to fine-tune your search query accordingly.
