The people have spoken, and they sure did love the recent Muppet Show special.
According to Disney, the revival has reached 7.58 million viewers since its February 4 premiere on ABC. Initial viewing numbers were notched at 3.07 million, so it’s more than doubled (or 147%, according to the Hollywood Reporter) that audience in the week since it came out. That new metric includes Disney+ and Hulu and is slightly above the weeklong numbers for the season premieres of ABC’s Abbott Elementary (6.64 million) and Shifting Gears (7.57 million).
Critics and audiences loved The Muppet Show special, with many calling it a return to form. After its premiere, fans have been clamoring for more Muppets, which this special definitely opens the door to; when Disney first picked it up, reports indicated this could kick off a new run of the 1976 show. With the audience responding well to it, the numbers being there, and folks online wondering what actors would be good to act alongside the Muppets, it’s just a matter of what call Disney decides to make and when.
Let us know in the comments below what you’d want to see in a continuation of this Muppet Show revival and who’d be a perfect guest star to pop in.
