The First Trailer for ‘Maul—Shadow Lord’ Proves Crime Does Pay

Reading time 1 minute

Darth Maul has come a long way since Obi-Wan cut him in half: he got new legs! He also got a brother, and they both became crime lords until Palpatine showed up. But before his final encounter with Obi-Wan in Star Wars Rebels, he tried to build himself back up again, and that’s what Star Wars: Maul—Shadow Lord is all about.

Set a year after the Clone Wars, which he survived during the Fall of Mandalore, our villain (again voiced by Sam Witwer) is working to rebuild the criminal empire that fell apart after his master showed up. The good news, he’s doing it on a planet that’s yet to succumb to the Empire. Bad news? More than that world’s criminal various criminal elements, his actions draw the attention of not just the Inquisitors—in particular, Marrok, last seen in Star Wars: Ahsoka—but also seemingly a surviving Twi’lek Jedi and a local cop.

Like Bad Batch before it, Shadow Lord is a mini-reunion of Star Wars animation alums. Not only is the series made by new Lucasfilm head Dave Filoni, but it also sees the return of Brad Rau, Matt Michonvetz, and Athena Portillo, all of whom wrote or directed episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, along with Rebels and Bad Batch.

Star Wars: Maul—Shadow Lord will hit Disney+ with its first two episodes on April 6, with two episodes airing weekly. The series’ voice cast also includes Gideon Adlon, Wagner Moura, Dennis Haysbert, Richard Ayoade, and Vanessa Marshall.
