The ‘Stranger Things’ Finale Trailer Goes to Eleven

Reading time 2 minutes

The end of Stranger Things is just hours away—”The Rightside Up” starts streaming Wednesday, December 31, at 5 p.m. PT, if you’re counting down like we are—and Netflix certainly isn’t going to cough up many reveals ahead of time. It makes perfect sense, then, that the finale trailer gives us little in the way of new footage.

Instead, we get a pep talk from Hopper (David Harbour) to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) set against scenes of her struggles across the seasons. Though she’s been sidelined for much of season five thus far, it sure looks like the finale will put Stranger Things‘ superpowered hero back at the center of the action.

At the end of the clip, we do get a little peek at the Abyss inching closer and closer to the WSQK radio tower. Looks like Steve’s Slinky-inspired plan to access the dreaded realm is going to work… we hope?

“I need you to fight one last time,” Hopper says. “Life has been so unfair to you. Your childhood was taken from you. You’ve been attacked and manipulated by terrible people, and you never let it break you.”

The montage shows us other characters who’ve also suffered as Stranger Things has put them through their paces, especially Will (Noah Schnapp) and Max (Sadie Sink).

But there’s no doubt who Hopper is addressing as he finishes his speech: “Fight for the days on the other side of this. Fight for a world beyond Hawkins. Let’s end this, kid.”

As the angry red edge of the Abyss looms, a terrified Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) gets the last word: “Mother of god!”

The apocalypse is knocking—are you ready? Stranger Things season five volumes one and two are now streaming on Netflix, with the feature-length finale arriving December 31.

The final battle begins December 31—but first, we have praise and a few nitpicks to pass along to Netflix and the Duffer Brothers.

As 'Stranger Things' bids farewell this week, don't expect Vecna to bring the Red Wedding to Hawkins.

Before hitting the endgame, 'Stranger Things' had to tie off some threads and help the Hawkins gang get their heads in the game.

The actor behind Vecna, Henry, and Mr. Whatsit breaks down his complex role in season five.

However, viewers were kept in the dark until season five's second batch of episodes, now streaming on Netflix.
