Go Shopping With the Mighty Nein in This Magical Clip (Exclusive)

Reading time 2 minutes

The animated adaptation of The Mighty Nein is based on the Critical Role campaign played via Dungeons & Dragons. Like Vox Machina, there are a lot of D&D-isms implemented throughout each episode, and this week’s features the most important of all: shopping.

io9’s got an exclusive clip of tomorrow’s episode, “Belonging.” With the Nein back in Zadash, Caleb (Liam O’Brien) finds himself in need of some spell components, which takes him to the Invulnerable Vagrant, a magic shop that’s got everything he needs. It’s also owned by Pumat Sol, a firbolg who runs it with the help of his three simulacra handling the front work while Pumat Prime takes care of everything in the back. And like in the campaign, all four Pumats are voiced by Matthew Mercer.

Pumat’s a fan-favorite character owing to his kind disposition and the imagined (and now real) sight gag of three of the same guy finishing each other’s sentences, working around the shop, and people reacting to seeing that for the first time. Think of him as the Nein’s equivalent to Gilmore from Vox Machina: he pops up throughout the campaign whenever the Mighty Nein end up back in Zadash, and he’s a hoot each time, so expect to see him again whenever they eventually come back into town.

If that wasn’t enough, we’ve also got a behind-the-scenes look at how Pumat’s introduction was brought to life. Check it out below!

The penultimate episode of The Mighty Nein lands on Prime Video overnight, followed by the season finale next week.
