2025 promises to be a great year for genre at awards shows, but the Golden Globes were tougher than others. Nominations for this year’s awards hit Monday morning, and while expected films such as Sinners and Frankenstein got them on the film side, as did Severance and Pluribus on the TV side, our beloved Star Wars show Andor didn’t fare as well. Diego Luna was nominated for Best Actor, but the show failed to get any other nominations, including Best Drama.
And while that’s the bad news, the genre films and shows that did well, did very well. Sinners got seven nominations, including Best Drama, Best Actor, and Best Director. Frankenstein got five, including Best Drama, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor. Wicked: For Good got five, including two for Best Song, and Bugonia got three, including Best Actor and Best Actress for Musical or Comedy. Over on the TV side, Severance got four nominations, while Pluribus got two, for Best Drama and Best Actress.
Also of note are the Best Animated Film awards, which included noms for KPop Demon Hunters and Demon Slayer, and the “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement” award, for which Avatar: Fire and Ash, which has yet to be released, got nominated.
But don’t worry, Amy Madigan did get nominated for Weapons. As did Natasha Lyonne for Poker Face and Jenna Ortega for Wednesday.
